Five reasons for learning Spanish
Reasons For Learning Spanish
There are many reasons for learning Spanish and I would like
to list the five that I believe are the most important:
First, having a second language such as Spanish helps you
feel good about yourself; like any life-skill, it enhances your self-confidence
and sense of purpose. I think that is probably what the Emperor Charlemagne
meant when he said,
“Having a second language is to possess a second soul”.
It is a life changing skill!
Second, learning Spanish will enable you to converse and
build relationships with people from many different countries and cultures. Spanish is the most widely spoken European
language [apart from English] and is spoken in 35 countries and by about 450
million people.
Third, the cognitive processes involved in learning Spanish
provide plenty of mental exercise. This
is really beneficial for anyone [working or retired] who enjoys activities that
challenge the mind and wants to keep the grey matter in shape.
Fourth, to possess a second language such as Spanish open
doors! Having level B2 [Common European Framework] in Spanish looks great on a
CV and it shows potential employees that you are able to linguistically defend yourself in
any business meeting involving native Spanish speakers.
Fifth, visiting Spanish speaking countries becomes an adventure
in which you get to develop your linguistic skills and appreciate the culture
around you. You will enjoy travelling in
that country more because can communicate with its people.
At Salamanca House we bear constant witness to the positive
effects that learning Spanish has on people’s lives.
For me, acquiring a second language has radically changed my
life for good and I believe it can change yours too.
So why not give it a go?
